About

Welcome to Financeclever.com! My name is Juan. I started this blog for a few reasons:

  • To encourage and inspire others to pursue financial independence.
  • To connect and exchange ideas with people who are also pursuing financial independence.
  • To organize and expand my knowledge, and to motivate me and keep me accountable on my financial goals.

Financial independence means no longer having to work to pay your bills. Your money works for you while you spend your time doing whatever you choose. In other words, it is the ultimate freedom!

I was born in Colombia in an amazing middle class family. Money was not scarce but it wasn’t abundant either. So, I learned to optimize my resources and be efficient with my money from a very early age. This skill has paid off handsomely so far as I was able to graduate from college and complete two master’s degrees debt free. It has also put me and my wife in a position to be financially independent in our mid 30’s. See our 10 year plan.

We don’t have particularly high salaries, inheritances, or any other fancy sources of money. However, we understand money and are able to live happily while saving a large portion of our income. As it turns out, this is enough to achieve financial independence long before the traditional retirement age of 65. If we can do it, you can do it too!

Where to Start?

If you are new to financial independence, I recommend checking out the two following posts to better understand financial independence and become familiar with some basic principles.
